YouTube has been working on improving its comments section on the best Android phones, and the latest look shows how the app may be adding comments while they are viewing a full-screen video.

Several users have reported a “bug” (via Android police) in the YouTube app, which displays the comment area in landscape mode in a scrollable area of the page. The control panel seems to allow users to hide or show the comment area at will, resizing the video.

The transition looks pretty smooth and provides an uninterrupted viewing experience for anyone brave enough to scroll through the comment section. It would save users from going out of full screen mode to leave a comment on a video. It seems that users can also remove the side control panel by clicking the “X” in the top right corner of the control panel.

The new view is also different from the live chat feed that appears when viewing a live video feed.

If this is a test, it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen YouTube messing around in the comments section. In March, the app was spotted testing different layouts to see how comments appear below the video. However, it is unclear whether any of them got stuck.

Previously, the comments section on YouTube was only visible in portrait mode, but many users may prefer landscape mode for a more immersive viewing experience. This would give users the ability to interact with videos no matter how they watch them.

The feature doesn’t seem to be generally available, which means it’s likely a server-side A / B test. However, YouTube may choose not to extend the rollout of this handy feature, but we’ll have to wait and see. Of course, as a parent, you can always set up a supervised account for your kids on YouTube to keep them safe from the horror of the comments.
