What is Google Cloud Here’s what you need to know

What is the Google Cloud Platform?

The Google Cloud Platform (GPC) is, as the name suggests, a cloud platform or “Infrastructure as a Service” (Iaas). This means that it offers a range of tools, services, and apps that businesses can use to improve productivity and workflow. This includes cloud storage and backup, database management, developer tools, IoT, analytics, machine learning, and more.

In this post, we’re going to try to fully answer these questions: What is Google Cloud? Is Google Cloud Certification a Smart Investment for Professionals? Does GCP offer the services your business needs? Let’s find out.

An introduction to Google Cloud

Android developers who visit this site frequently may be familiar with Firebase. It is a mobile application development platform that offers various useful tools that developers can use in building their apps.

While most of the code in an app runs natively on the user’s device, most of the code also has to rely on the cloud for a variety of different functions. For example, you may need to let a user sign in with their Google account. You may also want to store your user data in the cloud (so that they can still access it after switching devices), or you may want to use speech recognition / computer vision which is slow to process on the device. For this purpose, a developer outsources these functions to an online service such as Google’s Firebase.

Every Firebase project is Likewise A GCP project and many of the functions of Firebase are simply delegated to Google Cloud. In fact, a lot of the time mobile developers are sent to the Google Cloud console, which has a different blue and white user interface. In this way, Firebase acts as a front-end for Google Cloud, which has been specially optimized for mobile developers.

So a Google Cloud project works the same way, but with broader applications. Businesses can use Google Cloud services in the same way to power their apps, websites, in-house software and tools. Google delivers hardware (servers) and software in an always connected way that businesses can rely on.

A company can use GCP to store user data, incorporate machine learning into its services, add additional security measures, or secure databases.

Google Cloud versus AWS versus Microsoft Azure

As mentioned earlier, GCP is just one of several competing cloud platforms. The next question then is what is Google Cloud best for? When should you choose one over the other?

The two biggest competitors are Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. These platforms offer “Infrastructure as a Service” (IaaS) in a similar way, but differ in terms of pricing and the specific functions offered.

Today, Amazon Web Services is the largest and most widely used cloud platform with a market share of 33%. It is followed by Microsoft Azure with a market share of 16%. Google Cloud is only 8% behind the market.

Although Google Cloud is not the most widely used version and offers fewer services overall, it is popular for certain tasks. In particular, Google Cloud is known for its machine learning capabilities based on the excellent Tensor Flow platform.

Since machine learning and AI are key priorities for many companies in 2020, this is a key benefit.

What is a Google Cloud Certification?

Google Cloud certification shows that an individual has an understanding of how to use Google Cloud services. This means that they can help companies integrate these cloud services into their workflow: a sought-after skillset for many companies.

There are several Google Cloud certificates available:

  • Associate cloud engineer
  • Professional cloud architect
  • Professional data engineer
  • Professional cloud DevOps engineer
  • Professional cloud network engineer
  • Professional cloud security engineer
  • Professional collaboration engineer

Applicants must pass an exam to earn certification. Exams cost between $ 125 and $ 200.

Is it a worthwhile investment for an IT professional? The short answer is yes for a great many people. Although AWS and Azure are more widely used, many companies still choose Google Cloud. And as machine learning becomes increasingly important for many services and products, the demand for certifications is likely to only increase. Many IT professionals would benefit from certification with all three important cloud platforms.

However, certifications like this should be viewed as a way to complement a well-rounded resume. Most employers will continue to prioritize experience and qualifications over certification.

Those considering certification should educate themselves with an online course that will familiarize them with the platform and even prepare them for the exams. Android Authority Readers can access some heavily discounted courses, including the excellent GCP: Complete Google Data Engineer and Cloud Architect Guide for just $ 9. This course offers over 166 lectures (22 hours of content) and typically costs $ 199 – so hurry up!
