Walmart is taking on Amazon, Roku, and Apple with its ultra-affordable in-house streaming devices

It would be excused for forgetting or not knowing, but Walmart has been selling a whole range of (affordable) items under its own Onn (stylized “onn.”) Brand for several years.

We’re talking about everything from smart TVs to crazy cheap true wireless earbuds, on-ear headphones, bluetooth speakers, microSD cards, different types of charging accessories, and perhaps most notably (at least to this day) Android tablets that want to ruin Amazon’s incredibly popular Fire lineup in the lower to mid-market segment.

At just $ 29.88, the company’s rookie effort undercuts everything from Amazon’s $ 50 Fire TV Stick 4K to $ 50 Chromecast with Google TV and in this extremely crowded and competitive environment Roku’s 4K capable Streaming Stick +, which usually, you guessed it, $ 50 too.

Perhaps even more impressive is that the hot new UHD streaming box is cheaper than Amazon’s Fire TV Stick (3rd generation) released in 2021, while also being the regular price of Google’s entry-level Chromecast, the Roku Express and the Fire TV Stick Lite corresponds to.

Neither of these four competing devices can deliver 4K UHD content on your otherwise non-4K UHD-supporting television, which obviously gives Walmart an important edge when it comes to reaching cash-strapped video streaming addicts.

Of course, there’s no point comparing the incredible affordability of the Onn Android TV UHD streaming device to the Apple TV family, which starts at a whopping $ 149 for a pure HD model. For what it’s worth, Apple has long been rumored to be developing its own inexpensive streaming stick, though we’re pretty sure it won’t start at $ 30 even if there is one.

Speaking of sticks, Walmart has an Onn branded streaming device in this form factor that is almost ready to be released online as well for an even lower starting price of $ 24.88 with only Full HD video support.

Both the UHD box and the FHD stick come standard with a handy remote control with dedicated Google Assistant, Netflix, YouTube, Disney + and HBO Max buttons that tells you pretty much everything you need to know about the main supported services and apps need to know out of the box (or stick).
