Samsung launched three 5G-enabled Galaxy A-series phones on the US market today. But the company doesn’t stop there and has launched two more dirt-cheap phones for budget-conscious buyers – the Galaxy A12 and the Galaxy A02. It seems Samsung is keen to fill the huge void LG left in the US prepaid phone market after LG exited. Go read this excellent piece on 9to5Google on how Samsung can benefit from LG’s exit from the US smartphone market.
Samsung Galaxy A02s
The Samsung Galaxy A02s was launched back in November last year, but signs of its US debut began to appear in January of this year. The Samsung entry-level phone features a 6.5-inch HD + display (720 x 1600 pixels) with a waterdrop notch on top and thick bezels. The lights are turned on by a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 15 W charging, while Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 SoC is at the heart of it.
There are three cameras on the back – a 13-megapixel main snapper, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and another 2-megapixel camera for macro shots. There is a 5 megapixel camera on the front for selfie tasks. It is sold in a single configuration with only 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. However, you can expand the internal storage via a microSD card. Also, there is no fingerprint scanner on this phone.
Prices and availability: The Samsung Galaxy A02s is priced at $ 109.99 and will be available on April 29th at Verizon and Samsung.com.
Samsung Galaxy A12
On this device you will find a 6.5-inch HD + LCD display (720 x 1600 pixels) and a V-shaped notch. This is powered by the MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, which ticks in addition to 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A12 with a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 15 W fast charging.
On the back there are four cameras with a 16-megapixel main snapper, a 5-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 2-megapixel macro snapper, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Selfie and video call tasks are handled by an 8 megapixel front camera. The fingerprint sensor is embedded in the power button, while the color options on the table are black, blue, and red.
Pricing and Availability: The Galaxy A12 will set buyers back by $ 179.99 and be available starting tomorrow at AT&T, Cricket, Metro by T-Mobile, and T-Mobile.
