The March NPD numbers have been announced and they paint a very successful picture for the PS5. According to Mat Piscatella from the NPD GroupSony’s PS5 is the fastest-selling console in US history, with both unit and dollar sales in the first five months.
Back in February, Sony confirmed that 4.5 million PS5 consoles had been sold at the time. February’s NPD numbers also showed it was the fastest-selling console in US history, as measured by US dollar sales. While it’s hard to buy a PS5 right now, it looks like a lot of people got their hands on one.
This is good news for PlayStation, which has been in the news lately for some decisions that have been heavily criticized. First it had announced the closure of the digital storefront for the PS3, Vita, and PSP – a move terrible for game preservation – and then a Bloomberg report showed that Sony’s obsession with mega blockbusters was driving high sales within the company .
Elsewhere on NPD news, Outriders ranked # 3 best-sellers on both Xbox and PlayStation platforms. In terms of PS5 and PS4, this is followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (# 1) and Spider-Man: Miles Morales (# 2).
