Protect your expensive flagship phone with free insurance from American Express

Remember when your American Express card was the only thing you couldn’t leave home without? That started to change on June 29, 2007 when Apple launched the iPhone. The device quickly and easily found a place in consumer pockets, replacing multiple mobile devices, including an iPod for your music, a BlackBerry (for sending and receiving text messages and emails), and a cell phone.
These days, you cannot leave your home without your smartphone giving you instructions. This can save you time by streaming videos, playing games, working, and keeping up to date with the latest news. And of course you can make and receive calls.

With flagship and foldable smartphones priced between $ 1,000 and $ 1,800, phone insurance is needed more than ever. At the beginning of April, Amex started the mobile phone protection program. No registration is required as the plan automatically covers devices listed on a previous month’s cellular bill and paid for with an eligible American Express account.

Once in the program, a device is insured for two claims for each 12 month period. Amex will reimburse the device owner for the amount earmarked to repair an insured phone or hand over $ 800 (after a $ 50 deductible) for a stolen handset. This may not cover the replacement cost of your stolen phone. However, if you have already taken out insurance for your expensive top shelf device, Amex insurance can serve as a second insurance policy.

Of course there are some limitations. If your device is stolen and you want to file a lawsuit with Amex, you must file a police report within 48 hours of the theft. If your device is leased, purchased for business purposes, purchased as part of a fleet, or linked to a prepaid account, you will not be eligible for the cell phone protection program.

The American Express cards that offer the mobile phone protection package include:
