In this week’s poll, we want to find out what you think of software updates. Are you busily sifting through each article to find out what new features are in store, or are you ambivalent or perhaps annoyed about updates?
Let’s talk about software today, not focusing on Android or iOS specifically. Rather, we are looking at the updates that you receive on the operating system of your smartphone. Since these two mobile operating systems had been fighting each other the longest, they also made for a lot of talking point. As such, it is not uncommon for such conversations to affect their respective update policies.
Apple seems to have perfected the nature of the system updates with its iOS compared to Google and its Android system, where the latter has a number of hardware manufacturers with an insane number of devices, leading to the huge challenge of adapting those software versions to a particular handset or model.
Regardless of this, the reactions in both camps cover a whole spectrum. There are those who are very excited to install it right away and try out each new feature. For others, their blood pressure rises at the thought of downloading another major update. There are also others who cannot take care of such software updates and who do not know the version of Android that powers their smartphone.
These are enough reasons to give us a clearer picture of which side of the fence you are on. Hence the birth of this poll of the week! Let us begin:
Are you happy about new updates?
Which faction do you belong to? Do you know all the available functions of the new iOS or Android version by heart, are you annoyed about the system updates or do you care and you do not know which Android version your device is running on? Let us know in the first poll:
Are you delaying installing system updates?
Yes, even in our NextPit editorial team there are some who knowingly delay the installation of the latest system updates. These are the kings and queens of procrastination! And no, for her sake I won’t name her! Is there an update? Yeah sure, but I’m not going to install it, especially NOT NOW !!! So you refuse this, no matter how often you are reminded by the system to perform the update. Are you the same when software updates or new security patches arrive?
Which security patch do you have installed (Android)?
As a user of the Huawei P30 Pro, I can tell you the following: Yes, there is a life without having to deal with a new Android version! However, security updates tend to be viewed a little differently, right? At best, these updates come every month. However, Android manufacturers usually take their time to distribute them.
So here you can see how up-to-date the Android smartphones are in the NextPit community. Check your handset settings. Go to “About This Phone” and tap “Android Version”. You should be able to see the latest security patch listed here.
How many updates do you expect when you buy a new smartphone?
A vendor’s update policy can also play a role in your purchase decision. Samsung has certainly not hurt itself by promising a four-year update guarantee for many of its models. Do you have a preference in this area or does it only play a subordinate role when buying a new handset? Let us know in this final poll for today:
That’s it guys. As always, we thank you for participating and we would be delighted if you could discuss your update habits and opinions on the update policies of various smartphone manufacturers in the comments section. Just be careful it doesn’t turn into a flame war! ;) As always, there will be an evaluation of the survey results on Monday, so be curious!
