Photographic evidence allegedly shows smaller notch for this years 5G iPhone series

Today a Twitter member named Duan Rui (@ duanrui1205) has posted pictures of an alleged glass panel for the iPhone 13. Again, the notch looks smaller, and moving the space needed for the speaker to the edge of the glass allows the cameras to snuggle up a little closer together in the notch. This gives Apple the ability to reduce the size of the notch.

On his Twitter account, Rui points out that he gets his pictures from social media, which is the case here. The images accompanying this article were posted on Twitter after first appearing on Weibo. We should note that there are no markings to indicate that the glass panels in the photos are actually intended for the iPhone 13 series.

Of course, there is a chance that the pane of glass in the photo that accompanies this story is not really related to the iPhone 13, although it is similar to the images we showed you last month. It will be about five more months before the iPhone line launches in 2021, and there will be plenty of time to spot more leaks that could allow us to verify the legitimacy of these panels.

The panels could be prototypes of third-party screen protectors. In this case, the dimensions used to create the prototype are usually taken from rumors and even photos of the latest models, which are the iPhone 12 series. Note that in the photos comparing the glass panels to an iPhone 12 model, the notch is visibly smaller.

If you’re wondering when a notchless iPhone might hit shelves, it could be as early as next year. Forward-looking analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said earlier this year that we could see the notch through 2022 when the iPhone 14 series arrives. Replacing the notch could be a hole for selfies, with an in-display camera replacing the one used for Face ID.

The first iPhone with this notch was in 2017 iPhone X, although it wasn’t the first phone to have one. The Android powered Essential PH-1 is considered to be the first handset with a notch.
