On the AX11000, the ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 is one of the fastest routers that is more consistent than most routers thanks to Wi-Fi 6E. The Rapture also has four Gigabit LAN ports and a 2.5 Gbit / s port. It’s backed by great software including AiMesh extension, game optimizations, and AiProtection Pro security and parental controls.

These routers have a lot in common on the spec sheet as two of the first Wi-Fi 6E routers available are available. With the Nighthawk RAXE500, Netgear continues the elegant design language it began with its early Wi-Fi 6 routers with all eight antennas in the two wings. This antenna array enables the tri-band wireless AX11000 speeds of 12 streams at 4.8 Gbps for 5 GHz devices and 4.8 Gbps for 6 GHz devices. Asus adjusts the speed of the Nighthawk with its ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 and eight external antennas. Asus also has most of the features people have come to expect from its products, such as free AiMesh support and AiProtection Pro.

Netgear Nighthawk RAXE500 vs. ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000: 6 GHz Wi-Fi

When it comes to pure speed capabilities, these routers look like their AX11000 Wi-Fi 6 counterparts with the same top speed and very similar physical designs. Wi-Fi 6 routers could achieve AX11000 speeds by using two 5 GHz bands plus one 2.4 GHz band. In a vacuum, this is more than enough for anyone, but in practice, the congestion from neighboring Wi-Fi signals at 5 GHz can cause even those speeds to drop, even with the improvements that came with Wi-Fi 6.

Wi-Fi 6E is largely the same as WI-Fi 6 with an additional 6 GHz band. With room for up to seven 160 MHz wide channels, 6 GHz plans in advance and should allow wireless speeds to stay high even if most people switch to Wi-Fi 6E devices at some point. If you live in a densely populated area with inconsistent wireless speeds, Wi-Fi 6E and 6 GHz can be a way to enhance your experience.

To keep it simple, when you reach the limit of what’s possible at 5 GHz, Wi-Fi 6E opens up a huge spectrum with a lot more connections than both 5 GHz bands combined.

Even so, it is still not the time for most people to upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E. Even with a Wi-Fi 6E router, you will need 6 GHz compatible devices to use it. Currently, it’s only limited to high-end devices like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and gaming PCs. Wi-Fi 6 devices can only access the 5 GHz band. However, if you want to be ready for the next wave of devices or are ready to upgrade your laptop or desktop PC, 6 GHz is the most significant increase in Wi-Fi capacity ever.

Both routers are tri-band routers with 12 streams that enable speeds of up to AX11000. This is divided into a 2.4 GHz band at 1.2 Gbit / s, a 5 GHz band at 4.8 Gbit / s and a 6 GHz band at 4.8 Gbit / s. These routers assign four data streams to each of these tapes, enabling maximum performance no matter which tape you are connecting to. The 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands support 160 MHz, although 160 MHz at 5 GHz is not always the best choice in congested areas. Still, it’s nice to have the option.

Most Wi-Fi 6 devices only connect at 1.2 Gbps at 5 GHz, although newer devices like the Galaxy S21 Ultra and ROG Phone 5 support up to 2.4 Gbps at 6 GHz. That speed boost has more to do with the fact that these phones can use 160MHz bands with 2×2 MIMO than the 6GHz band itself, but it still shows what is possible when there is enough spectrum for those huge bands .

The similarities continue with the wired connectivity. Each router has a total of six Ethernet ports with a Gigabit WAN port for the incoming Internet connection, a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port that can either connect to a fast device or a fast incoming connection with four Gigabit Ethernet ports for the rest of your wired devices. Of course, connection aggregation can be used with two Gigabit LAN ports to increase the speed on supported devices, or even connect a LAN port to the WAN port.

Each device also has two USB 3.0 or 3.2 Gen 1 ports with speeds of up to 5 Gbps. You can connect a storage device such as an external SSD or flash drive to easily access files from your network devices.

When it comes to reporting, there are finally some notable differences. While both routers can easily handle coverage for a large house, Netgear does it with four antennas included in each wing-like extension to the left and right of the device. Technically, the Nighthawk can be operated with the wings lowered without obstructing ventilation. However, you should set them up for optimal coverage.

Netgear’s simple design makes setup extremely intuitive and looks great at the same time. That said, it looks great if you don’t want your router to be noticed.

Asus takes a simple but eye-catching approach with two antennas on each side of the router for a total of eight. Asus also put a large RGB Republic of Gamers logo in the middle of the device. This can be set to show network traffic, external intrusion, or CPU usage. You can also choose one of several dynamic presets from the Asus router app or the web interface.

One thing to keep in mind is that higher frequency signals are more prone to degradation as they travel through objects like walls. This means that some wireless devices farther away from the router may need to connect to 2.4GHz, which means much lower speeds. Asus has a solution to this problem with AiMesh. This software is built into most of the new Asus routers and allows you to create a mesh network with multiple routers. The Rapture GT-AXE11000 can serve either as a primary AiMesh router or as a node. You can even mix and match different router models. So if you upgrade from another Asus router, you can use your current router for the new network.

You can set up the Nighthawk RAXE500 quickly and easily using the Nighthawk app available on the Google Play Store. You can also use a web interface if you don’t want to manage your network in an app. Whichever you choose, you get access to Netgear Armor. Netgear Armor is a subscription service that includes Bitdefender security for your devices, plus a few other device control options and suggestions to improve your security.

Netgear Armor retails for $ 69.99 per year and can be an easy way to ensure your network is protected. You can also manage everything through the Nighthawk app.

The ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 can also be set up and managed via an app or a web browser. The Asus router app in the Google Play Store is one of the most powerful network management tools of all router manufacturers. Here you can set up your AiMesh and manage your devices. One thing that sets it apart from the Netgear solution is that it creates profiles for different people who use the network, which makes it easy to control online time.

Asus also includes the free AiProtection Pro software package for the life of the product. With the security provided by Trend Micro, you can be sure that your connections are as secure as possible. If you have a family, AiProtection’s parental controls allow you to define rules for each person’s device at the same time. This includes access schedules, content filters, a Kid Safe preset, and an internet activity dashboard so you can stay tuned.

AiProtection is great value even if you don’t need all of the features. It’s great to know it’s free there when you need it.

Netgear Nighthawk RAXE500 vs. ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000: Which WiFi 6E Router Should You Buy?

It should be noted that most people can get more than adequate speeds from one of the best Wi-Fi 6 routers for a much cheaper price. However, if you’re looking for the fastest Wi-Fi speeds possible, these two have Wi-Fi 6E routers. When it comes to value for money, the ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 is the leader not only thanks to the lower recommended retail price, but also thanks to AiProtection Pro. If you want to get your whole family online asap, the ROG is not only faster, but it also comes with a more comprehensive software package.
