While the global shortage of chips and increased demand for the Xbox Series X continue to make it nearly impossible to get one, the Xbox Game Pass has grown in popularity. One device that makes better use of its dual screens in mobile games is the Microsoft Surface Duo.
Instead of trying to find the best controllers for Xbox Game Pass, get the latest update for the Android app (via Panos Panay) improves compatibility when using the Surface Duo. Essentially, you have the game yourself on one of the screens, while the screen you are physically holding has all of the controls you need.
Without using a physical controller, you might be wondering exactly how this dual screen approach works in gaming. Well, Microsoft and game developers have worked together to improve what controls appear on the display while you are playing. They’ve also tweaked the gameplay to accommodate touch controls when pressing physical buttons. There are currently more than 50 touch-controlled games on Xbox Game Pass for Android, including some of the best games ever Gears 5.

It’s great to see Microsoft taking care of their own device to better support their own application on Android. But we’d love to see similar improvements for the other large foldable device in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. With Game Pass and one of the best Android controllers, some have already ditched the idea of consoles altogether, but it would be great to see more attention for using touch controls on other foldable devices.
The Surface Duo wasn’t exactly the hit Microsoft was hoping for as the company is still working on tweaking the software to work with two separate screens. Rumors have it that the Surface Duo 2 is in the works and many of these bugs will be fixed. There is also hope that on Microsoft’s next device in 2021 we will see flagship specs, an improved camera system, and possibly even 5G network connectivity.
