Leaked renders of Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro (no official names) show a significant shift in design language for the upcoming series compared to the older generations. The smartphones are provided with a horizontal camera module on the back that extends over the entire width of the phones. These pictures were shared by a trusted tipster who has been pretty careful about Apple and Google leaks in the past. The renders of the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are accompanied by renders of a smartwatch that is supposedly the Pixel Watch.
Pixel phones in the past, starting with the Pixel and Pixel XL, had a pretty simple one. There have been some iterative changes over the years, especially to the back. The Pixel and Pixel 2 had a thick bezel, while the Pixel 3 had a large notch. The Pixel 4 returned to the thick bezel, albeit slimmer than before, and the Pixel 5 received a hole-cutout display design. The back of the Pixel phone was flat and very similar until the Pixel 4. This time, however, Google is doing something strikingly different.
Tipper Jon Prosser shared 3D renders of the alleged Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro on Front Page Tech’s YouTube channel. The two phones have the same back design, the only difference being the number of cameras. The render or pixel 6 shows a raised, narrow horizontal bar that extends the width of the phone and contains two camera sensors as well as the flash. There is an orange field above this camera bar and below it a white field with the Google logo. The power button and volume down button are on the right. On the front you can see a centrally arranged hole punch along with narrow bezels.
Prosser claims that he actually got real-life images of the phone that he sent to concept artist Ian Zelbo (@RendersbyIan) who created these 3D renderings.
The Pixel 6 Pro renders show a third camera sensor in the horizontal camera bar with the same design for the rest of the back as the Pixel 6. Details of the camera sensors are currently unclear. One of the renders also shows a built-in fingerprint sensor that will likely be present on both phones. The Pixel 6 Pro appears to have a pink, faded orange box under the camera bar. Another rendering of the Pixel 6 Pro was shown in the video with a champagne-like color.
In addition, one of the renderers shows a smartwatch next to the alleged Pixel 6, while Prosser said nothing about it, another tipster Max Weinbach asserts on Twitter that this is actually the Pixel Watch. Weinbach also said that he can independently confirm that the Pixel 6 renders are correct but the colors are not.
Google has not yet released any information about the Pixel 6 series of phones. However, a report from early April suggested the search giant may be using its internal SoC called the “GS101” Whitechapel SoC to power the next generation of Pixel phones. There’s no information on when the rumored Pixel 6 series will be revealed.
