Google is significantly increasing Workspace, its suite of cloud-based collaboration tools like Documents and Sheets. This upgrade comes in the form of Google Smart Canvas, a new approach to collaboration and remote work by users on projects. But The focus is on the intent to offer deeper integration so that you don’t have to switch between different apps or tabsand enable effortless cross-product collaboration. Confusing? Let me break it down for you

Do you remember when Gmail got a special meet button a few months ago? Well, Google is building on that very foundation again. Google is now bringing Meet to documents, slides, and sheets as well. This means You can now present your project directly in the documents (sheets or slides) via video call. without having to worry about screen sharing tools. Later this year, all three apps have direct Meet integration, so you can start a video call from the same tab and collaborate on a project.

Next up are smart chips or, in simple terms, the ‘@’ mention system. Right now, you can tag someone directly using the @xyz feature and view details such as their location and contact information. Now, When you use the ‘@’ command, relevant files and meetings are suggested in addition to people. And just like with contact cards, you can preview the file you want to add using the smart chips trick. Now available in Docs for mobile and the web, it will soon be available for Sheets as well.

There are also emoji reactions to Docs A pageless view that removes page borders and resizes the document to your screen size. Voice suggestions are also enhanced to make the tone more inclusive (“chairman” instead of “chairman”), favoring active voice over passive jargon and discouraging offensive words.

Google also brings multiple table templates into documents. For example, There will be a survey-based spreadsheet that you can use to collect feedback. The project tracker helps you to keep an eye on the progress of a task. Another extremely helpful feature that will be available in Meet is the live translation of subtitles. The video conferencing service will initially provide support for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and English. However, more languages will be added in the future.

Last, You can now directly edit a document or sheet that was shared in a Google Chat conversation. And in the coming weeks, this experience will also come to slides. Finally, it should be noted that some of the workspace features announced by Google at I / O 2021 were long overdue, particularly the integration of Meet with productivity apps like Docs and Slides. But like them, it’s better late than never, especially when Microsoft’s competition is hotter than ever.
