The live stream of Google I / O 2021 starts on Tuesday, May 18th. The search giant has decided to host the annual event practically this year – after last year’s version was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Historical records suggest that while Google I / O is geared towards developers creating new apps and content based on Google technologies, the I / O keynotes have become more of a consumer show. Google is likely to follow this pattern and host this year’s keynote with announcements ranging from a new Android operating system version to some new updates to Wear OS and Google Assistant. The Mountain View, Calif., Company may also showcase its new Pixel smartphone at the keynote, though it will go on sale in some markets later this year.
How to Watch Google I / O Live Stream 2021 in India and around the world
Google I / O 2021 will take place between May 18 and 20, starting with a keynote address scheduled for 10 a.m. PT (10:30 p.m. IST). The keynote and the entire three-day event will be broadcast live via Google’s social media channels. You can also watch it live from the video embedded below.
Developers can view live sessions when registering for the event and participate in virtual workshops that begin after the keynote. There will be special sessions on topics like Android, Google Play, Progressive Web Apps, Google Assistant, Chrome OS, Google Pay, ARCore, Material Design and Smart Home. Google posted details of the sessions and workshops on a dedicated I / O website.
What to expect at Google I / O 2021
Just like in the previous steps, Google was silent about what we could expect from its I / O 2021 event. However, during Google parent Alphabet’s call for earnings in late April, CEO Sundar Pichai suggested that some “major product updates and announcements” would be part of the virtual conference.
Android 12 could be the biggest announcement of I / O 2021. Google has already released three developer previews of the operating system, which it announced earlier this year as an update for Android 11. Details available on the vine suggest that Android 12 could have features like a redesigned notification panel and new conversation widgets on the home screen to notify users of messages and calls from contacts. The new version is also expected to include features such as support for the AVIF image format and an improved picture-in-picture experience for videos.
Google is also expected to improve privacy on Android 12 and include an app hibernation feature to provide optimized storage space. The new operating system will also address developer concerns about Google’s commission from the Play Store’s in-app payments by improving the experience for third-party app stores. In addition, Google can enable the Google Assistant to be called using the power button on Android phones. This could be similar to how iPhone users of the new models can activate Apple’s Siri.
Improved Google Assistant
The Google Assistant is also likely to receive some important updates that are expected to be announced at this year’s I / O event. Google announced on its developer blog that some “new product announcements” and “feature updates” will appear at the show. A new, colorful interface was also shown in some leaked screenshots.
In addition, the Google Assistant is likely to get some features specifically aimed at enhancing the smart home experience. However, Google is not expected to announce any new smart home products at the event.
New Wear operating system
This year’s Google I / O is also expected to have some new features available for Wear OS, formerly known as Android Wear. The changes could be designed to counteract Apple’s watchOS and could include special treatment for fitness enthusiasts. Google already has Fitbit on board, which could help improve the Wear OS with new fitness features. The changes could also make way for Google’s in-house smartwatch, which could be referred to as the Pixel Watch, and offer a premium design for the Apple Watch. Additionally, it is speculated that Samsung is ditching its Tizen operating system and unveiling its Wear OS-based smartwatch, which could be announced at the Google I / O 2021 event.
Google usually avoids making a list of hardware announcements on its I / O shows. However, it is likely that the company will showcase its Pixel Buds A-Series (TWS) truly wireless stereo earbuds and the Pixel 5a smartphone at this year’s event. Details about the Pixel Buds A-series earbuds were accidentally leaked by Google earlier this month. The company also confirmed the existence of the Pixel 5a 5G through a statement suggesting its debut in August. But Google can introduce the phone at the keynote.
