Perhaps one of the most polarizing topics of all time began back in November 2017 with the introduction of the iPhone X and the first stage. This solution was part of the Face ID package as Apple needed to figure out how to integrate the TrueDepth camera technology into the front panel of the device. And since then, Apple and every other Android OEM have tried to come up with a less intrusive alternative to offer their users facial recognition and a clean front panel.

We’re currently in 2021, and Apple and other smartphone companies are still trying to get rid of nicks, hole-punch displays, mechanical pop-up cameras, and more. And as we get closer to the possible death of the notch with the introduction of cameras under the display, we are still getting representations of the future of the notch in iPhones.

The new iPhone 13 is expected to have a larger footprint than its predecessor, which leaves room for speculation about its design. The possibilities of a smaller notch were rumored even before the iPhone 12 launched, and we’ve only seen this on the iPhone 12 mini. Designer Antonio De Rosa came up with another idea that allowed Apple to lift the front-facing facial recognition technology above the display in a staggered design.

This design may never make it to a real and working iPhone, but it’s nice to see everyone trying to get the notch out of their iPhone’s display. This new device is labeled iPhone M1 and there is no wrong dreaming. In the meantime, we will continue to hope that previous rumors and leaks from smaller notch screens actually tell us that the upcoming iPhone 13 is finally making that dream come true.
