Wireless headphones for Samsung Galaxy S20
Android Central

Are you looking for the best wireless headphones for your Galaxy S20? We review dozens of wireless earbuds each year and are here to help you choose the right option for your needs. Samsung dumped the 3.5mm jack starting with the Galaxy S20, so the default option for listening to music on your new phone is Bluetooth. Fortunately, there is an excellent selection right now. Here are our tips for the best wireless headphones for the Galaxy S20

1. Samsung Galaxy Buds +: Overall best

If you don’t want over-ear headphones and are looking for a true wireless option, the Galaxy Buds + are the obvious choice. Samsung has revamped the sound profile of the earbuds and added a secondary driver to each earbud for a much better sound quality. There’s also Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, three microphones, and quick pairing.

Another area that has seen a massive change is battery life. The Galaxy Buds + have an 85 mAh battery and offer a battery life of 11 hours between charges, almost twice as much as its predecessor. You also get wireless charging via the Qi standard, and the case has enough power to allow an additional 22 hours of music playback.

  • Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity
  • Qi wireless charging / fast charging
  • Excellent battery life
  • Decent sound

  • Limited bass
  • Picky controls

2. Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro: Best ANC

If you are looking for wireless earbuds with excellent ANC, the Galaxy Buds Pro are the obvious choice. These are the best wireless earbuds for Android that offer great sound quality with tons of customization options. They are great for all day and include wireless charging.

But the standout option here is the ANC: these earbuds are possibly the best on the market in this particular field. They do a great job of canceling out any ambient noise and there is a built-in wind deflector so you can take calls on the go. Whether you work from home or need to turn off ambient noise outside, the Buds Pro are a great choice.

They last five hours on a full charge, and you get a couple of charges out of the case. The charging case itself is plug-in and not too bulky, and you can pick up the earbuds in lots of interesting colors. The only downside is that some of the settings only apply to Samsung phones. So you’re missing out on things like the Smart Switch – the seamless switching of connectivity from your phone to the tablet.

  • Outstanding ANC
  • Highly customizable sound signature
  • Elegant design
  • Excellent audio quality
  • Wireless charging

  • Some settings are limited to Galaxy phones
  • Expensive

A year after their introduction, the WH-1000XM4 continues to be the headphone to beat. Sony got the basics right, and the lightweight design means you can wear the headphones all day without discomfort. You get high-quality ear pads, intuitive controls on the right auricle and the ability to connect to Google Assistant and Alexa. There’s also 30 hours of battery life, fast USB-C charging, and a fold-down design for easy portability.

Much of what makes the WH-1000XM4 great is Sony’s dedicated processor, which does an incredible job of isolating noise. The result is that the WH-1000XM3 is in a class of its own when it comes to active noise cancellation. If you often work in cafes or are looking for headphones to block out ambient noise while working from home, the WH-1000XM4 should be at the top of your list. They’re expensive, but you get great value for money here.

  • Exquisite sound quality
  • Unsurpassed active noise cancellation
  • Ideal for the whole day
  • Lasts 30 hours
  • Charges via USB-C

TaoTronics makes some of the best under $ 100 headphones you can buy, and this particular option stands out in many ways. First, you get active noise cancellation, which in itself is a big deal as it’s usually reserved for more expensive headphones. Combine this with a great sound profile with a bass-heavy sound signature and a foldable design and the headphones become all the more exciting.

The main reason for this, however, is the battery life. These headphones last well over 40 hours on a full charge and come with a carrying case too. The design is nothing to write home about, but the overall value here is incredible.

  • 40 hours of music playback
  • Bass-heavy sound
  • Switch ANC
  • Portable design
  • Fast pairing

Aukey is another brand that suits the budget category. The EP-T21 wireless earbuds are still a great option if you want bluetooth headphones for less than $ 50. Here, you get a lot for a little bit: the Neckbuds have an IPX4 rating which makes them ideal for workouts, they’re great for calls and zoom meetings, and you get five hours of battery life on a full charge.

The lightweight design also makes them ideal for everyday use and they pair via Bluetooth 5.0. You are missing out on some features. However: They are charged via microUSB and have no AptX codecs. Even so, the value offered here is really amazing.

  • Bluetooth 5.0
  • IPX4 rating
  • Light design
  • Five hours of battery life

  • Micro USB charging
  • Limited to SBC

Plantronics has managed to make a name for itself over the past few years by offering features similar to Sony and Bose at a much cheaper price. The BackBeat 2 Pro illustrates this point perfectly. They deliver great sound quality and last 24 hours between charges. You get great active noise cancellation that minimizes ambient noise around you.

There’s no downside here, and the fact that you can get your hands on the BackBeat 2 Pro for around $ 100 makes it a fantastic choice. You also get a carrying case and the bluetooth range offered here is incredible. There are a few tradeoffs, like micro-USB charging, and the design is a bit bulky, but overall you get great value here.

  • Excellent sound quality
  • ANC that works
  • 24 hours of music playback
  • Portable design

  • Bulky
  • Mushy controls
  • Micro USB charging

Lots of great options for your Galaxy S20

The audio industry has focused heavily on the wireless segment over the past four years. The result is you can get your hands on decent bluetooth headphones for less than $ 50. The best overall option is still the Galaxy Buds +. Samsung managed to get much better battery life here, and the sound profile is cleaner. Combine that with the fact that you can wirelessly charge the earbuds on the back of your Galaxy S20 and they become an even better deal.

However, if you are looking for the best, the Sony WH-1000XM4 is the obvious choice for your Galaxy S20. Sony’s high-end options have everything you’d expect in headphones. You get great audio quality with customizable EQ, a lightweight design that’s great for everyday use, and noise isolation that’s taken to a whole new level.
