After Apple was the hot news in the rumor mill for a week, Apple has finally stopped its new update for Apple Music. The company introduces Spatial Audio to its music app with support for Dolby Atmos. With its multi-dimensional sound and clarity, Spatial Audio enables artists to provide their fans with an immersive audio experience. In addition, Lossless Audio will be introduced for the entire catalog of 75 million songs. And guess what? Apple doesn’t want you to pay anything extra. These new features will be available to Apple Music subscribers at no additional charge starting next month.

Apple brings Spatial Audio to Apple Music with support for Dolby Atmos. By default, Apple will automatically play Dolby Atmos tracks on all AirPods and Beats headphones with an H1 or W1 chip, as well as the built-in speakers in the latest versions of iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple will keep adding more Dolby Atmos tracks. Apple Music works with artists and labels to add new releases and the best catalog tracks.

Apple will also make its catalog of more than 75 million songs available in Lossless Audio. For the unconscious, Apple uses ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) to preserve every single bit of the original audio file. Hence, Apple Music subscribers can hear exactly what the artists created in the studio. To hear lossless audio, subscribers using the latest version of Apple Music can turn it on in Settings> Music> Audio Quality.

Apple Music’s lossless tier starts with CD quality. that’s 16 bits at 44.1 kHz (kilohertz), and goes up to 24 bits at 48 kHzand can be played natively on Apple devices. For real audiophiles, Apple Music also offers lossless hi-resolution up to 24 bits at 192 kHz.

However, as my colleague Anton pointed out, 256 kbps currently in use is more than sufficient for most people. Hence, you might be fine if you don’t get on the hype train.

Apple Music is making the greatest advancement ever made in terms of sound qualityy, ”said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president for Apple Music and Beats. “Hearing a song in Dolby Atmos is like magic. The music comes from everywhere and sounds amazing. Now we bring our listeners this really innovative and immersive experience with music from their favorite artists like J Balvin, Gustavo Dudamel, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Kacey Musgraves, The Weeknd and many others. Subscribers can also hear their music in the highest audio quality with Lossless Audio. Apple Music as we know it will change forever. ”
